Microsoft has announced the retirement of Azure Communication Services (ACS) in September 2028.
Azure Communication Services has been a cloud based solution provided to integrate applications, web sites or systems with email, text message or real time voice/video chats; it was even able to integrate with marketing solutions to track down email clicks.
This service has been a hidden gem in the Azure services since it has been introduced in 2021.
While migrating from ACS to one of the proposed solutions (keep in mind they proposed/identified solutions, it does not mean you have to use one of them and there may be others available for your need) should not be too much a trouble, you still need to start your migration path.
In details:
- All used ACS functionality must be migrated before September 30, 2028. After this date, all services will stop working
- SMS
- Advanced Messaging with WhatsApp
- Chat
- Chat for Teams Meeting Interop
- Rooms
- Number Management (Direct Offer)
- Direct Routing
- Job Router
- Web UI Library SDK
- Mobile UI Library SDK
- New ACS services will not be able to provisioned after October 23, 2026
