Entra – Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR) will require registered authentication methods from September 7th

As you know, Entra is providing a self-service password reset (SSPR) to end-users to self reset their password instead of contacting your support team.

For years, the registration process for SSPR has been merged with the registration process for multi-factor authentication (MFA) so onboarding was simpler for end-users.

Despite this process merge, administrators were still able to configure different/additional authentication methods for SSPR – such as mobile/office phone or alternate email address.

Starting September 7th, 2026, this will no longer be the case and SSPR registration will required to use the method(s) configured for MFA.
