Exchange Online – Exchange Web Services (ESW) usage report

As you are probably aware, Microsoft has announced the blocking of Exchange Web Services (EWS) on Exchange Online (see Retirement of Exchange Web Services in Exchange Online | Microsoft Community Hub) in October 2026.

While many organization still rely on EWS for some activities, it is quite difficult to identify the use of EWS across the organization.

To resolve this lack of visibility, Microsoft has introduced an EWS usage report in Office 365 administration portal (Home – Microsoft 365 admin center).

NOTE this report is only available for commercial cloud; government or other sovereign clouds need to refer to a self service Github project available here GitHub – OfficeDev/ews-migration-analyzer: Analyzer for code bases using Exchange Web Services (EWS) to assess migration readiness to Graph API before the EWS deprecation date.

To access the EWS usage report, access your Office 365 administration portal and reach the Reports\Usage blade to choose Exchange\EWS Usage

You can then identify what is still using EWS and the amount of request – you can export the details for offline analysis.
