Teams – The new Teams client is now generally available for Windows and MacOS

As you probably aware, over the past year a new and improved Teams client (Teams 2.0) has been in development and preview.

Well, today marks the general availability of this new client for Windows and MacOS.

One of the major improvement is a better and seamless cross-tenant (multi-tenant organization or multi-tenant/multi-account) management.

To enjoy the new client, there is no migration required; the client will be automatically upgraded over the next few months as per the below schedule or you can instruct your end-users to use the New Teams toggle on the upper left side

  • Public preview program: Available
  • Targeted release program:Available
  • Current Channel: September 2023
  • Monthly Enterprise Channel: October 2023
  • Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel (Preview): September 2023
  • Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel: Semi-annual Extended
  • LTSC and remaining channels: January 2024

Teams 2.0 will become the default Teams client as per the below schedule

  • Teams Public Preview: September 2023
  • Targeted Release Channel: September 2023
  • Current Channel: Late October 2023
  • Monthly Enterprise Channel: January 2024
  • Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel (Preview): Late October 2023
  • Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel, Semi-annual Extended, LTSC, and remaining channels: March 2024

Teams administrator can also manage upgrading to Teams 2.0 using the policies and management control available from the Teams and/or the M365 Apps administration portal
