Azure – Azure Recovery now supports SQL 2019 and restore as file

Azure Recovery Services is keeping up with the latest release of Microsoft SQL, SQL Server 2019, as it now supports backing up SQL Server 2019 data running on virtual machine.

This also includes support for SQL Server 2019 running on Windows Server 2019.

In addition of this support, you also now restore SQL backup as a file (as .bak file – the famous SQL backup file type). This means no need to recover the full virtual machine anymore to recover a single (or more) SQL database and also this means you can then copy the .bak file to any other location to recover it using SQL Management Studio.

The recover as file still requires to target a ARS registered SQL Server anyway but you then define a path where the backup file will be recovered.
