This has been a long awaited new administration role: Teams Reader.
If you are managing Microsoft Teams, you already know you have various administration roles (6) allowing you delegating some aspect of Teams administration.
Unfortunately, until now there was no way to grant a reader access to your Teams tenant.
Well, good news as the new Teams Reader administration role is now being made available.
Deployment has already started and is expected to be completed by end of June 2025 for global customers, and starting early July 2025 with completion expected by end of July for government high clouds.
As always, you can grant the Teams Reader role from the Entra ID portal.
There are few limitations – some will be covered at a later stage:
- No access to view Teams management (will be added soon; we will update this post when available)
- No access to Meetings & Calls details of users (will be added soon; we will update this post when available)
- No access to Notifications & Rules management (will be added soon; we will update this post when available)
- No access to Frontline worker deployment management
- No access to the Collaboration activity dashboard
