Azure – New low cost Azure Bastion SKU – Bastion Developer (preview)

If you are running virtual machines on Azure, you may already know that you can use Azure Bastion to allow accessing the VM using remote desktop or SSH without opening these management ports over the internet.

Well, good news as if you need to learn about Bastion or use it in a development/test environment, you can now use the new Azure Bastion Developer SKU which is less expensive than the Basic or Standard SKU, but also provide less capabilities.

When using the Developer SKU, you can connect to only 1 virtual machine at a time.

Unlike the Basic and Standard SKU’s, the Developer does not need nor use the AzureBastionSubnet subnet in the virtual network and does not need neither a public IP.

During the preview, the Developer SKU is only available in the following region:

  • Central US EUAP
  • East US 2 EUAP
  • West Central US
  • North Central US
  • West US
  • North Europe

Similar to the Basic and Standard SKU’s, you can upgrade from the Developer SKU to any of the other ones.
