Since the introduction of Teams, Microsoft has introduced additional features over the time.
While more features have been added, the Teams client did not really evolve.
Well, a major refresh of the Teams client is coming and you can already start using it.
If you are in the public preview program, the option to turn on the new Teams is available right now.
If you are in the targeted release program, this will become available by mid-April.
Teams administrator to opt-in for the preview for selected users using the update management policy.
The new Teams client is supposed to be faster and more performant:
- Install app up to 3X faster
- Launch app up to 2X faster
- Join meetings up to 2X faster
- Switch chats/channels up to 1.7X faster
- Consume up to 50% less memory
- Consume up to 70% less disk space
To switch back the ‘classic’ Teams client, just turn of the toggle you used to try the preview
NOTE when turning on the new Teams, a new icon is used in the systray
