This is patch Tuesday again and Exchange server do not make exception.
But this month there are quite few things to be aware:
- A new security update and hotfix packaging is now available. You can now download a self-extracting EXE file which will self elevate itself when running. This new packaging should help resolving the infamous ‘double-click’ on MSP file which has been the original way of delivering the updates for Exchange.
As you now if you manually tried to install the Exchange MSP update package you had to run it using an elevated command prompt, which was more than often forgotten by just double clicking on the MSP file which then may ended to have your Exchange server in bad shape.
You can run the EXE file version using some parameters:
- /passive: run the EXE with no user interaction and if a restart is required it will automatically restart the server
- /silent: run the EXE in quiet mode (no progress bar) and if a restart is required it will automatically restart the server
- This month security update release requires you run the run again the /PrepareAllDomains parameter. This month you can not just run the /mode:Upgrade parameter. You need to run the /PrepareAllDomains parameter after having already installed this month security update
