Windows 8 – Hyper-V platform can’t be installed on every x64 processor

As you may already know, Microsoft has included (finally) his hypervisor (Hyper-V) on the Windows 8 client.

However, Hyper-V 3.0 can’t be installed on every x64 processor – such Intel Centrino 2.

Indeed, your x64 processor must have a second level address translation capabilities.

For checking if you can enable Hyper-V 3.0 on your computer, you can use the tool Coreinfo available at

Run this tool in command prompt

You will get all information about your processor; the important ones are:

  • EPT for Intel processor
  • NPT for AMD processor
