ForeFront – FEP 2010 manual installation and settings

ForeFront Endpoint Protection 2010 is now easier to install manually and provide some additional settings to manage performance and quarantine.

Manual installation

To install FEP, locate on the client directory for your processor (x86 or x64).

Execute the installation program FEPInstall.exe and follow the wizard.

After accepting the EULA, you have to choose if you want to join the Customer Improvement Program or not; this program is sending usage data to Microsoft for analysis in order to improve programs. No personal information are sent.

Then you have to say if you want to enable the Windows Firewall or not if it is not enabled. Don’t activate it if you already have another firewall solution is use on your computer.

The setup program will no check your system.

If you have already installed the older version, ForeFront Client Security, the setup program detects it and propose to uninstall it.

Once FEP has been installed, you may have to reboot your computer.

Settings

Open the FPE local console from the Start menu or by double clicking on the icon shown in the systray.

The HOME section allows you to manage manual scan options, the UPDATE section is providing details about the latest update files and allows you to launch a manual update, the HISTORY provides details about what was found on your computer and finally the SETTINGS section is to manage the configuration; configuration which can be also managed from a central server.

Thanks to the Settings tab you can ask FEP to not use more than XX% of CPU, to delete quarantine files after xx days/weeks…

Some ForeFront Client Security settings are kept, such as directory or file type exclusion.
