With the coming new SharePoint version, called SharePoint 2013, Microsoft has introduced a new feature on WAC (Office Web Application).

This feature, called SharePoint Translation Services, allows you to translate document to another language.

This service works ONLY with Word document.

Prerequisite

To be able to use SharePoint Translation Service, your infrastructure must match the following

  • SharePoint 2013 (off course Smile)
  • WAC 2013 must be deployed
  • Your SharePoint servers must have Internet access
  • SharePoint Online 2013, which will be included in the next major update for Office 365 (Wave 15)

SharePoint Front End servers must have internet access has the service is requesting translation from a web service.
